For the second straight year, the birth rate in the United States has dropped. The number of babies born dropped 2.6%. The news may not be surprising given the state of the economy. Stress tends to take it toll on people's sex life.
People also tend to postpone having children when their financial ability to raise a child is not so great.
The U.S. birth rate has been declining since the start of the economic downturn in late 2007. When the economy picks up, so should births, said Cherlin, though he stressed it will take time for people to feel secure again.
